Getting back

Gosh! where do I start? where DO you start when you haven't blogged for this long. It's been almost two months between drinks and I must say I have found it awfully hard to get back into. 

It may be the fact that I have just lost interest in blogging, I've still been reading a few blogs but have not felt interested in blogging about myself or show off what I have been making or doing.

 It may be because things around here have been a little flat, Paul was made redundant  way back in January and and is still trying to find his way back into the workforce. It has been a tad stressful to say the least but I am constantly reminding him/me of the things to be really grateful for.

 It may be that I have been enjoying that extra time normally spent on the computer, I'm finding more time to spend with the kids, I'm more organised and certainly being more creative. 

What ever the reason, things have been happening, the sewing machine has been getting a workout, I'm enjoying late nights sewing and I even started a little label and popped a few things in a Sydney store.

It feels good to be back.......

Naturally Cushy

Just finished up two more large cushions for a friend, the happy owner of the green ones in my last post. Some more Designers Guild fabric scraps made into big fat cushy floor pillows. Once again I hand made the piping (getting quite pro now) and used a divine cotton and hemp blend for the backing. These babies are so soft and plump, makes me want to throw some on my floor myself.

Okay enough of the cushions for a while, I have a few things cut out for Rosa so I plan to sew to my hearts content this week end.

Colourful Cushions

The sewing machine has been working overtime lately, I've had a few orders through friends to make cushions. I'm brushing up on my piping making skills and sitting up late at night assembling these pretty things. What's not to love about these Marimekko fabrics? so nice to work with.

And this Designers Guild fabric, these were pieced using offcuts from blinds, sewing the strips together is a great way to use up the scraps, with soft denim for the backing makes for perfect playroom cushions.

I still have orders in the pipeline before I can tackle some for me but I'm getting there.

Petal Pocket Pillows

 When I happened across this sweet pattern a few weeks ago I knew exactly what I was going to make for two special girls having a birthday.

Nova at A cuppa and a catch up has created a fun pattern to make these gorgeous pillows. Such easy steps to follow and although I didn't do a lot of it by hand as she does I'm still really happy with the outcome.

The pillow is fully lined and combining the fabrics is the most fun. It's almost like making an entire quilt with hand stitched binding and all. The backing is quilted and you can choose to hand quilt the front if you like. She even has a boys version.

The best thing for me is that I used pieces from my stash and scrap bin and even used the old strips of wadding that are always left over after quilting, these were joined perfectly to make for not one but two very snugly and ever so cute Petal Pocket Pillows.

Go on, you know you want to make one!

Baking, Sewing and Beaching

Sheet Shorts

Finally something for the boy, I am always on the lookout for cool boys sheets in the oppys, sadly they are very few and far between. I used the three that I had and they match perfectly together. Not sure how long they will last as my boys are very rough on their cloths and used cotton sheeting is not the most durable but if we get through the summer then I'm happy.

These three fabrics along with others I hope to find will go into a boys vintage quilt one day.

Chevron from the Bee

Quilting Bees!!! something I had never heard of before I started my little blog. I quickly became intrigued and through a friend I landed in this fabulous bee of lovely ladies. I still have not stitched my blocks together from last years efforts but this year I am really motivated.   It's something for me, I popped along to Cloth in Surry Hills, their drool worthy fabrics are to die for and I had to come home with the heaviest bag of hand printed linen. (I tried to justify the $45m price tag with the fact that most of my other fabrics at the moment come from Vinnies) certainly made me feel a little better anyway.

The Beehive ladies have done a superb job of sewing a strip each for me. I am still waiting on a couple and a few to make myself then I'm ready to start sewing this baby together. 

I cannot take the credit for the pattern, I spotted in on this amazing blog.  Siobhan is so talented and very prolific, go take a peek!

It's a Wrap

The vintage sheet stash is getting way out of control, so much so that sewing in my craft room has ceased. At least until I can get in there and have a good old tidy up.

 I took a few sheets to mum's for our  week in Wagga, a trip to mum's is never complete without a spot of sewing. I cut a pattern from an existing store bought skirt of Rosa's and chose 4 fabrics that would compliment each other. 

I don't think it matters what colours you choose they always seem to mesh together beautifully.

Do you find it hard to leave vintage sheets on the shelf when you are op shopping?

tea towels, holly and special friends.

One of my loveliest friends dropped in yesterday, I few weeks back I gave her this thrifted Irish linen tea towel  rolled up in a Fowler jar, she kept the jar and handed the tea towel back to me saying that it was way too nice to dry dishes on.........so a pillow it was to become, the green zip is in the spirit of Christmas and the orange backing was fabric I had on hand.

And look what the naughty girl gave me, I swear she never visits empty handed. The cutest Holly bush with bright red faux berries. I hear it's very hard to find budding holly in the southern hemisphere at Christmas.

Another special friend dropped in just when I popped the kettle on. She gifted me a magnificent stack of this. I'm only sorry I didn't take a pic before we ripped the cellophane off and devoured it with our cuppa tea. You really need to make these brownies, divine I tell you.
