Winter beanie

So the plan was to learn to crochet for the second time in the school holidays.......well, they came and went and I am still no further along the crochet path. I conveniently left the yarn with mum and voila..........a week later look what the postie brings.....one cream beanie and a blue flower brooch to boot......

Rosa was pretty chuffed...............thanks Grandma!

op buys

Not much sewing has been happening around here of late. The school holidays have seen us have a trip to Wagga staying with mum, a visit to the Junee licorice factory, some park days, a very chilly 5.8 degree day followed by a few foggy slightly warmer days (only just!), some wonderful catch ups with friends, a tipsy night out, a couple of spewey nights (the boys not me!) and as I said ZERO sewing......nothing like a bit of op shopping to fill the void.

A vintage cross stitch doily.......ok a tiny bit of sewing was done here. Don't mind the milo spill on the top.

This super cute vintage fabric/doona cover. I'm pretty sure the fabric is old just by looking at the print. It has been sewn into a doona cover using the longest metal zip along the side seam.

And this large wooden toy for Rosa to put her favourite mini Strawberry Shortcake doll in.

Lets just say Rosa scooped this time around!

PS: I could show you what the boys have scored in the past few weeks but action figures, batman costumes and gumboots and really not that cute!

Red Rocket Finito

Harvey has been begging me to photograph his little robot that he made then drew on with permanent ink, he's creations are so simple and their little faces always remind me of him.....does that make sense?

He just so happens to match perfectly with his Red Rocket quilt which I finished today. I'm so happy, mainly because after many a long month it's finally done but I really love the colour combo.
It certainly comes as no surprise that I have bound it in Lotus Dots red which I am never sick of and I really love the acid green in this one.

After much umming and arrhing and a quick call back to the quilter to change my mind, I opted for the cloud quilting with I thought would go well with the rocket theme. I don't know about you but I can't help but see that old fashioned quilting that you used to see on the old bedspreads, do you know the one I mean??? If I look past that then I'm pretty thrilled with the end result.

Now that I see the two boys quilts together I love that they are similar but have their subtle differences. Which one do you like best?

Love

My friend Bel had her gorgeous baby Grace three and a half months ago (seems to be the lead time for my baby quilts these days). I knew I wanted to try my hand at a strip quilt using the Amy Butler Love range. They are such busy fabrics so I think the strip is a perfect way to show off the prints.
I know a lot of people didn't fall in LOVE with this range but I certainly did and I was inspired by this quilt of Kate's. I had it quilted in a fairly large rose pattern to compliment the green and orange rose print.
Bel absolutely loved it so I'm really pleased. I must say, I found it a tiny bit hard to part with.

Rosebud's dress

Here's Rosa standing on the kitchen bench, I was trying to get a good shot of her little winter Christening dress. I have decided that navy corduroy is very hard to photograph.
We had such a great day with our family and friends and Rosa had this smile planted on her face the whole week end. I was also Godmother to my Best Friends little Girl Lucia, sad not to get a photo of them together.

And here she is with her Godmother Aunty Adrienne.

Thank you Ade, you did a beautiful job on the dress, we had such a great week end with you guys. xx

Happy Birthday Charlie Boy

To my gorgeous number one baby boy. Happy number seven sweet pea! I've loved spending the whole day with you at the Powerhouse Museum on your school excursion........ You are such a caring soul, you love adventure and the outdoors. Your favourite things at the moment is lighting the fireplace with your dad, climbing trees and Man v's Wild. You are an excellent big brother and the best kid ever..(along with your brother and sister of course!)
Love you lots Charlie xx

A dress in the making

On Sunday this little poppet is getting Baptised. Given that she is no longer a baby an we don't have a silk gown that has been handed down through the generations, I am on a mission to have a pretty winter dress made that she will love and hopefully wear again. My sister Adrienne, being the dress maker in the family is taking on the task. She is also going to be her God Mother so it's very fitting that she makes it for her.

I have had this cute little Oliver + S pattern sitting at home so I'm thinking the bubble dress or a more traditional long sleeve double breasted style.

At this stage I know it's going to be navy corduroy and feature a snippet of Sandi Henderson apples to match her cute pink shoes. The goods have been express posted and now it is out of my hands.....can't wait to see how it looks.

Thanks Ade x
